Help Us Get Cast on The Amazing Race
Hello and thanks for checking out our site. We both thought it would be a cool idea to build a web site to support our efforts to be cast on The Amazing Race, an Emmy-winning reality TV show on CBS. We've both been fans of the show since Season 1 way back on 2001 and our dream is to be cast on the 9th season (filming in November 2005) or the 10th season (if there is one, filming in Spring of 2006).
You could say that we've had this as our dream for more than 20 years. You might ask, "But The Amazing Race has only been around for a few years, how can that be?" In 1983, our family lived in England at the same time as a British television game show called Treasure Hunt began airing. From the first viewing, we were hooked. We used to literally have dreams of being on Treasure Hunt and we scoured bookstores for books on lost treasures, myths, and other oddities. CBS's The Amazing Race has renewed that zeal for us. Being part of the show would be fulfiilling for us a dream more than 20 years in the making.
You can help us get the notice of the casting directors by linking to this site from yours, emailing anyone and everyone you know in the television industry, and following our progress as we find out whether we are or are not going to be cast.
Testimonials and Supporters
"I think they would be great for the show, and I am not just saying that because I want to be able to say I know someone on the Race. They are quality people, and I don't say that lightly. Here's hoping that the producers of the show get it." - bump.net
"I think they have a pretty good chance, considering few bald Brooklyn blogger twins have done it before." - USA Today
"Cameron and his twin brother are now trying to get on the reality TV show Amazing Race, and he's got a website he hopes will get him enough attention to land the gig. Their angle is that they'll be the "blogging twins" of the show. Good luck!" - Boing Boing
"Check him out and spread the word; he and his brother would make a good team." - Spike
"BloggerTwin Powers, Activate!" - Dave
"How cool would that be? I've never seen that show but if these guys got on it, I would watch and I would tell everyone I know to watch. Good luck Barretts!" - Biz Stone, Blogger.com
"At long, long last the world of reality television has collided with the blogosphere." - Volumne One
"The BloggerTwins want the blogosphere to get them into the Amazing Race...Read their story about why they love The Amazing Race and the secret to their baldness. Actually, I made up the part about the secret to their baldness." - Blogebrity
"We aren't reality TV watchers, but I'd make an exception for this: Cameron and Damien Barrett want to be on The Amazing Race" - Dori Smith.
"[T]hese guys have a better chance than most. First, there's the twin thing. Then there's the California thing. Then there's the blogger thing, and finally (and possibly this is the deal-maker) there's the completely bald thing. This is a look common to TAR racers, from Kevin and Drew to, well,l Uchenna and Joyce. Good luck, guys." - Blogula Rasa
"You can bet that if the blogger twins make it, I'll tune in and cheer them on; they seem like a natural fit for the show." - Gordon Meyer
"With all the hype about RSS and Blogs lately the casting staff at the Amazing Race would be fools not to bring them on board and bask in the extra PR that the blogging community will bring them." - Nick Finck
"Cam Barrett (one of the first bloggers) and his twin brother Damien are auditioning for The Amazing Race, some kind of reality show on that other medium. To boost their chances, they’re blogging the whole thing." - Adam Fields
"The Amazing Race is one of the greatest television shows ever conceived and produced (and I mean that with all sincerity). A set of twins from Brooklyn have created a Web site solely to try and persuade [CBS] to cast them in season 9." - Gadgetopia
"Cameron is the type of guy whose mind travels at about 15,000,000 miles a minute even if he's not saying anything. I wouldn't even know what to expect if they were to get on the show." - Joe Stump
"Help Cam get on the Amazing Race. Because you know every blogger will be cheering for him if he makes it." - Wholesome Goodness
"Having read both their blogs for several years and as someone who has followed the Amazing Race for the last several seasons and I can say without reservation that they would make great competitors. I can think of well over a dozen reasons why would [they would] make great cast members for the show...they've got kind of a quirky/geeky quality that's a lot more interesting than the glut of mactors (model/actors) we've seen in recent seasons...If they ever encountered a shortcut or challenge that required them to shave off all their hair they would just laugh..." - Axodys
"I rarely watch reality TV. And if I ever do, it's because I'm not in control of the remote control. But I think I'll make exception if this self-proclaimed BloggerTwins manages to snag a spot in the Amazing Race. Why? Well, I just like the fact they're both geeky and humorous. And there's the bald thing going on... Ahem. ;p But seriously, I really wish these fellow bloggers good luck." - Yummy Sushi Pajamas
"...I think they have a pretty good angle to offer, and their site is nicely designed, so we'll go ahead and offer our endorsement. Now if only they'd give them some wireless enabled laptops and get them to blog from every rest-stop during the competition, now THAT would be cool, even if they delayed publishing to coincide with broadcast." - Yes But No But Yes
"It's just crazy enough to work." - Idiot Programmer
"I've known Cam and Damien for years (online anyway) and they've been inspirational and helpful to me in many ways... And their reason for doing this is a damn good cause, so if you can, help draw attention to what they're trying to do." - Rasterweb
"Twin brothers Cameron and Damien Barrett, known webside for their blogs Camworld and MrBarrettt.com, have a full scale campaign going to get themselves as contestants on CBS reality show the Amazing Race, ostensibly to win enough on the show to build their mother a wheelchair accessible home. We could swear this was a sub-plot in a Savage Steve Holland movie from the 80s with Bob Goldthwaite..." - Screenhead
"I think this is a great idea. Im so sick of skinny models who want to take their relationships to the "next level" (of what? hell?) getting all the airtime on The Amazing Race. The best part is that they want the money so that they can build their mom a wheelchair-accessible house. How sweet is that? And frankly, after watching HOURS of Sex and the City, I've realized I could do with watching a couple of Harry look-alikes for a few weeks. Anything's better than another Jonathan/Victoria or Freddy/Kendra team, ya know?" - Marmalade
"If these guys get on The Amazing Race I may actually watch this season." - Dead Yet Living
"Will it work, dunno, but best of luck to them both. I guess I should probably add something here that's funny enough to get quoted on the site's testimonials list, but I haven't had my coffee yet." - Chris Casciano
Damien and his brother Cameron are attempting to get on The Amazing Race. They have a noble purpose for this endeavor, having nothing to do with fame as "reality" tv stars. We'll be rooting for you guys from the phisch bowl! - Retrophisch
"These two clowns want to get on The Amazing Race, and their hoping a blog might help them do it. They might have a decent chance, considering a few bald Brooklyn twins have done it before." - Hunter & Kris Show
"Cam and Damien Barrett (the Bloggertwins) are angling to get cast on CBS's The Amazing Race. I've only seen parts of the show before - but have to say that if the bloggertwins made it, not only would I tivo the whole season, but I'd probably write about it (hint hint, and I'm probably not the only one). Here's hoping the Bloggertwins make it - their cause is good!" - Kokogiak
"I'm a big fan of the show and I know Cameron, and I think he'd probably be good at the race, as well as entertaining. I'm also a fan of using weblogs, and the sort of loose networks they can often create to influence decisions outside of the blogosphere." - Michael Buffington
"Take note, CBS! I'm just doing my part here to help Cam and Damien get cast on The Amazing Race. Let's get some bloggers on TV and show just how influential we can be! I've been a fan of Cam's for a while. Good luck, guys!" - Anna W.
"And, via CamWorld (sidenote: Cameron Barrett is a pioneer of blogging, and a site I've been reading for many years) and mrbarrett.com, the casting for Season 9 is happening. They've even created a site, bloggertwins.com to create a bit of publicity around their audition." - Simon
"Cam - whose blog is one of the first I ever read and he got me inspired to start my own - and his twin brother are on a quest to be on The Amazing Race 9." - Andymatic
"I am a big fan of The Amazing Race (it is one of the better reality TV show out there) and would love to see these guys on it." - IndieScribe
"The infamous Cameron Barrett, an ex-Borders.com [colleague] and his twin brother Damien are trying to get on The Amazing Race. Good luck! If they succeed, I'll definitely have to get cable teevee if the torrent sites aren't carrying it reliably." - Ben Jenkins
"Hell, yeah! Get these stalwart fellows on the road and they'll chop back television's flourishing vapidity with a lot of Michigan nice and just a touch of New York City "screw you." I can't wait to see what kind of fun they'll have on an intercontinental lope once they power-up their geekified know-how and can-do." - Grant
This is really sweet: two bloggers, identical twins, are trying to get on the Amazing Race so they can win enough money to build their mom a wheelchair-accessible house. I used to read camworld way back in the dark ages of the late 90s when I first started my blog (and when nerds rather than hipsters were the cool kids), so i've gotta support one of the fathers of the blogosphere." - Catherine
"I am new to your site and I love it! The Amazing Race is a favorite of mine and my husbands. We think it's an awesome idea having some real folks on there competing! Shoot, we want to compete! Maybe next time! But for now we are pulling for you two and keeping our fingers (and toes) crossed that they cast you brothers as a team. I'm doing my part by posting a link on my blog. Good Luck guys we are pulling for you!" - Sherry L.
"Remember how much I love The Amazing Race! Of course I support this! They want to win money to build their mother a wheelchair accessible house, and they're twins, so they have both "noble goal" and "TAR requirement" going for them." - Eva
"Add to that the fact that I've met Cameron in person at SXSW, and his dry wit would be FANTASTIC on the show! Come on CBS, spare us one of the "we want to figure out where our relationship is going" couples and bring on the BloggerTwins!" - Big Pink Cookie
"Help Damien and Cameron Barrett get on The Amazing Race. This is f---ing great." - Ken MacGray
"WWCD - What would Cameron do? (if he got on Amazing Race)" - Alt Text
"What's the latest news from reality TV land? Well, there's the Blogger Twins who want to be on 'Amazing Race' so bad that they're blogging for it." - AOL
"Cameron and Damien Barrett, identical twins and longtime bloggers, are waging an online campaign to get themselves onto the reality television show The Amazing Race...The Amazing Race, for those who don't follow such things, is highbrow as reality shows go. Inviting bloggers to participate is a terrific idea." - Tenebris
"What sets them apart from other desiring applicants for the show? Well, they blog and are geeks. We, the blogging geeks of the world need to support their efforts to make reality less boring and more interesting...How often do you watch a show like this and say 'who are these people and why in the hell were they casted?' Well, if you help support Cameron and Damien's efforts to get on the show, you can tell your friends 'I helped!'." - Uncompiled.com
"The BloggerTwins cannot spear fish nor cook fish; they can't sing and dance; and they are too young to be the Skipper, so their last chance to become reality TV stars is The Amazing Race. Check out their site and join me in supporting them in their quest to bring geekdom to primetime!" - Keith Instone, IBM
"I don't watch reality TV (enough reality in reality for me) but it would be neat to see Cam and his brother compete on The Amazing Race." - This Boy is Toast
"I've always thought it was neat how two brothers both ended up so involved with technology and the internet. Little did I know they were fans of reality television! But now that I do know, it is no surprise that two talents like them would actually put together an audition blog, Bloggertwins.com to follow up their casting call! Go twins! If they get on I guarantee it will be a great season; I'm rooting for ya fellers!" - Bucci
