The Amazing Race is a CBS primetime reality television show in which 11-12 teams of 2 people race around the world. They are given clues to decipher and tasks to accomplish. The last team to check into the pitstop at the end of each leg is elminated from the race. The team to finish in first place on the last leg of the show wins $1 million.
Season 8 of The Amazing Race will premiere on CBS on September 27, 2005 at 9:00pm. Season 9 is currently undergoing casting call review and will likely film in November 2005 and air sometime in Spring 2006.
Past seasons of The Amazing Race can be seen every night on the Game Show Network at 9:00 PM and 12:00 AM.
It's our dream to be cast on the show, but we realize that racers are required to sign very strict non-disclosure agreements. In our case, we would shut down this site and our personal blogs would go silent. Please realize that this site has a limited lifespan and should it go quiet does not mean that we are on the show. Regradless, if we do get cast we will do whatever the show's producers ask us to, and that often means no talking to the press, the blogosphere or anyone else.
The primary reason for wanting to be on the show is to win the money, and the primary motivation for winning the money is so we can afford to build our mother a wheelchair-accessible house. About ten years ago she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and her condition has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer walk. She went broke raising five kids after our father died when we were 12 years old and had to give up her home to the bank. She deserves to spend the rest of her life in a more comfortable home. Our dream is to win the money doing something we love (travel) for someone we love (our mom).
We have no interest at all in being famous or making a career out of it (we both already have solid, respectable careers). Being on a reality TV game show is simply an opportunity for us to make our mom's life better.
From the National MS Society site: "MS is thought to be an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves. Surrounding and protecting the nerve fibers of the CNS is a fatty tissue called myelin, which helps nerve fibers conduct electrical impulses.
In MS, myelin is lost in multiple areas, leaving scar tissue called sclerosis. These damaged areas are also known as plaques or lesions. Sometimes the nerve fiber itself is damaged or broken.
Myelin not only protects nerve fibers, but makes their job possible. When myelin or the nerve fiber is destroyed or damaged, the ability of the nerves to conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain is disrupted, and this produces the various symptoms of MS."
CBS makes every Racer sign an non-discolusure agreement (NDA) saying they won't reveal the winner of the show or any information that might reveal who's been eliminated, etc. However, we're not on the show yet. This website was built to try to get CBS to consider us as contestants on the show. If they do cast us, we'll make the site and our personal weblogs fallow, and we would, of course, abide by the provisions in the NDA we'd sign.
While racing in The Amazing Race, contestants are not allowed access to computers, PDA's, or other electronics that would facilitate blogging. However, CBS may allow us to blog during the airing of the show and all posts would be, understandably, vetted by CBS for spoilers. Nor would we want to violate the NDA we'd have signed. If you won a million dollars, would you risk losing it by not complying with whatever CBS wants?
This site will go dark on September 1st, 2005, whether we are selected as contestants for The Amazing Race or not. The entire purpose of this site has been to try to get the attention of the TAR's casting agents...it's an experiment in using new media to influence old media. Will it work? We have no idea, but it beats sitting around on our hands hoping and waiting for a callback.
If the impossilbe happens and we're selected to be on The Amazing Race, it will not be announced here or on our personal blogs. The only people who will know will be our family members and employers. We understand the importance of secrecy in the contestent selection process and will honor any limitations CBS might ask of us.
